Create perforated and wire mesh objects using transparent materials
Updated
To create transparency with an image map: In Material Parameters select Transparency Map and load a black and white or grey scale image.
Note, white areas show material color and black areas are transparent.
Apply material to your object and use Edit Texture tool to control size and orientation.
To create transparency with a procedural texture: In Material Parameters select Grid, click Options button, then set parameters for grid thickness and transparency.
Apply material to your object and use Edit Texture tool to control size and orientation.
Some additional helpful hints:
To generate transparent shadows use Hard (Raytraced) shadows and the Transparent option for your light source.
See the “Louvers and Meshes” pre-defined material library for numerous examples of this technique.
